Description

This project involved the installation of stainless-steel crash bollards at the main drop-off and working zone of a live hospital site, forming part of a broader initiative to enhance safety infrastructure and improve access for pedestrians and vehicles alike. The primary goal was to increase pedestrian safety, manage vehicle flow, and create a clearly defined separation between pedestrian and vehicular areas in a high-traffic, operational environment.

Working within a fully operational healthcare setting required meticulous planning and coordination. Our team ensured that all hospital operations continued uninterrupted, maintaining safe access routes for staff, patients, and visitors while adhering to the highest standards of health and safety. The installation process began with careful site preparation, including the precise marking and excavation of the areas where the bollards were to be installed. Specialist plant such as excavators and dumpers were deployed to safely and efficiently handle the excavation and material movement, while minimizing disruption to the hospital environment.

Scope of Work

Each bollard was anchored into robust concrete foundations to ensure maximum impact resistance and long-term durability, providing a reliable barrier in high-traffic areas. The surrounding block paving was carefully reinstated to create a seamless and visually consistent surface, maintaining the aesthetic of the drop-off zone while ensuring durability under regular vehicular and pedestrian use. In addition, kerb modifications were carried out to improve accessibility, ensuring safe and easy access for all users, including those with mobility challenges.

This project also involved coordinating deliveries, managing on-site logistics, and implementing strict safety protocols throughout the works. Our team worked closely with hospital management to schedule works during periods of lower traffic and ensured that all areas were cordoned off safely while work was ongoing. The attention to detail extended to every element of the project, from precise alignment of the bollards to ensuring the concrete foundations were cured to specification and the paving reinstated to a high standard.

Outcome

Overall, this project showcases our ability to deliver complex infrastructure and safety upgrades within sensitive, operational environments. Through careful planning, expert execution, and a commitment to safety, our team successfully enhanced the hospital’s drop-off and working zone, creating a safer, more accessible environment for both pedestrians and vehicles.
